They say that a leopard can’t change its spots. Recently I’ve spotted some street styles getting in touch with their wild side. I love the contrast between these contemporary interpretations of leopard print and the vintage black and white images of this timeless print. Personally, I quite fancy a little leopard print... animal prints, when worn with a degree of subtlety, can be successfully stylish. But let’s not overkill this print by wearing it from head to toe. Restrain your inner animal by keeping it simple with a scarf, pumps or heels or even perhaps a leopard print clutch. The leopard is there, but not growling in your face.

I find it difficult to resist a black & white checkerboard floor… all that symmetry and my favourite black/white combination gets me every time. But it can be quite a dominant feature in a room and I found this article on Apartment Therapy particularly helpful if you find the checkerboard too much. It highlights various ways which can soften the hard edges of a traditional checkerboard floor, especially in a contemporary style setting.
The checkerboard pattern dates back thousands of years, where it was often used as a decorative pattern on pottery, and black and white checkerboard floors first appear in European paintings in the 15th century. Often associated with kitchens from the 1920s and ‘30s, checkerboard patterned linoleum tiles were a popular decorative feature in a home.

As you know, Friday means Fashion over here. This vintage style editorial from the May issue of Vogue Turkey really captured my attention for Fashion Friday. Beautifully shot by Luciana Val and Franco Musso and skilfully styled by Sebastian Kaufmann, the classic swimsuit styles from Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Paul Smith and Louis Vuitton appear as if they’re straight out the 1950’s. The appeal of these quintessential styles and the hazy quality of the photographs are authentic and retro.

Loving the distressed denim and pops of bright strawberry and lemon from the May curation of Zara people. I can’t wait for spring in the southern hemisphere this year… apart from the blossoms, birdsong and blue skies, a pair of floral pants will definitely be an adorable addition to my wardrobe.
