Grotto Bay

4

As we end a year and begin a new one, I thought I might share the first Out & About of 2012 with you… this time a peek at where we spent some of our summer holiday. Grotto Bay is a beautiful West Coast hamlet, a little south of Jacobsbaai and an hours drive from Cape Town. It has a wild and rugged beauty with an unspoilt beach. The homes, which are set back from the beach, are on the Grotto Bay Private Nature Reserve and tranquillity is part of the deal. Tortoises wander through the garden on their way to the fynbos and striped field mice scamper from bush to bush. If we sat quietly on the timber deck (with 2 young boys, the quiet part was a difficulty) we could catch a glimpse of the resident family of mongooses, who live peacefully under the deck, darting out shyly when all was still.

So, the perfect place to unwind, catch up on some reading and absolutely chill… blissful!
