flavour of the month: June

post-its

Flavour of the month for June was inspired by these little neon post-it tags. They’re brilliant when you find inspiration in magazines and need to mark the page and I use them all the time. I added a neon pink tag to my shelf arrangement, keeping company with that lovely vintage spool of hot pink cotton, and most of you liked this on instagram!

protea

The protea, one of my favourite indigenous South African flowers, sent more hot pink my way with their vivid petals. And how sweet is this little decorative birdhouse from The Space?

colour-love

The cover of the July issue of Vogue UK is also popping with colour… a perfect match for this cheerful bunch of poppies which brightened up my workspace. They’re such happy flowers… another favourite of mine!

poppies

Up on my inspiration board this month are a variety of images and objects. I’m loving these cool aqua shades at the moment, tinged with lavender and green.

Craig from The Lobby Hair Shop at the Woodstock Foundry [the beautifully refurbished 100-year old heritage building you have to visit] gave me an amazing new do… a great chop to start off the new season.

And as the Cape winter begins with plenty of rain, it’s important to take heart; it wont last forever.

winter-days

We love walking and cycling in the Tokai Forest and this handy rustic tree swing always provides entertainment for my boys, the apple[s] of my eye…

apple-of-my-eye

A fun app for the iPhone is Pocketbooth… you can see my youngest and I playing the fool. Good times.

My much-loved black & white chevron, adorning an entire wall in my studio, makes a striking statement alongside this laser-cut felt runner hung over the white door.

And a wonderfully relaxing weekend to Arniston rounds off our month of June… roll on July!

The Secret to Becoming a Grand 100 Year Old Lady

This weekend I had the honor of having dinner with one of my favorite
Advanced Style ladies. At 100 years old, Rose has a very busy social
calendar, so I was delighted to hear that she wanted to meet at one of
her favorite restaruants on the Upper East Side. People always ask me
what the secret to being vital at an older age is.The answer is that the
Advanced Style ladies refuse to give up. They have great attitudes,
keep busy, and live their lives to the fullest. Rose admits that being
100 comes with its difficulties, but she'd rather think about her next
dinner date or social obligation than worry about getting old. May we
all have as much, energy, style and spirit as Rose!!!

Color Coordination in Amsterdam

The Advanced Style ladies have taught me the importance of harmony and balance when it comes to dressing. I think more about how to coordinate the different colors and elements of my outfits to create a more beautiful whole. The woman above did a splendid job of coordinating her accessories with her wonderful graphic coat. Style really does advance with age!

Yesterday, my blogger girls and I were at a reception at the beautiful residence of British embassy. Our hosts for that night were her Majesty`s Ambassador Michael Davenport and Elle (Serbia issue) magazine. For the first time the whole issue of Elle is dedicated to one country - Great Britain. We also had chance to see the premier of "I married a Serb" movie (author and director: Anberin Pasha) , which is a story about five women from Britain, who where married for love and moved to Serbia. Very touching story with a great dose of British sense of humor.
More than great evening, that`s for sure, thanks to Elle&British embassy!

I was wearing a gorgeous Software dress (from our famous designer Dragana Ognjenovic -you can see the green version from the runway here) which is a part of her new collection for this summer! Matched with silver high heels, little bit of jewelry and lightly picked up hair, i was ready in a snap! ;)
Hope you will like it!

wild thing

did last weeks post for Freeworld Design Centre bring out your inner wild thing? grrrrr…

leopard-1

They say that a leopard can’t change its spots. Recently I’ve spotted some street styles getting in touch with their wild side. I love the contrast between these contemporary interpretations of leopard print and the vintage black and white images of this timeless print. Personally, I quite fancy a little leopard print... animal prints, when worn with a degree of subtlety, can be successfully stylish. But let’s not overkill this print by wearing it from head to toe. Restrain your inner animal by keeping it simple with a scarf, pumps or heels or even perhaps a leopard print clutch. The leopard is there, but not growling in your face.
